Milton State School promotes a creative, constructive and personalised teaching and learning culture. Our vision for learning and teaching is to innovatively grow young minds in challenging ways through a variety of modes, including digital learning environments. We value the importance of being digitally literate and connected and preparing our students for the next steps in their learning journey both within the primary school context, the secondary school environment and life. To support our vision, we facilitate a ‘Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for our Year 1 to Year 6 students. These students bring their own iPad to school each day. We also provide iPads for our prep students.

Please see below for information about the BYOD program.

Cybersmart

We recognise that student wellbeing and safety are essential for academic and social development. All students should be able to learn and develop in safe, supportive and respectful environments. Australian schools, families and communities all have a responsibility to provide safe online environments and teach children how to use technology in positive and productive ways.

With all of our students have access to various devices across the school and at home we have implemented a CyberSmart Program that runs from Year 1 through to Grade 6.

One of the best things you can do is customise your child's device, using Settings. Enabling or disabling certain features can make the device safer and more manageable, such as Location Services, iCloud, Screentime and Content & Privacy Restrictions. Keeping the operating system up to date will also help. A lot of updates are done to patch up any holes in security, although it may look like it's just new fun colours or features!

A Google search will give you many suggestions for setting up a device for a child, or you can see the “iPad Settings" document for some that we suggest.
